Free Business Listing Sites in the USA for IT Companies (2027)

A filtered list of free business listing sites in the USA for IT and software companies in 2027: map listings, trust platforms and B2B directories, with setup tips.

Free Business Listing Sites in the USA for IT Companies (2027)

The free business listing sites in the USA that help an IT or software company get found fall into three groups: search and map listings (Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect), trust and review platforms (LinkedIn, Yelp, BBB, Manta) and B2B directories where buyers compare development and IT partners (Clutch, GoodFirms, TechBehemoths, Trusted IT Firms and, for marketing agencies, BrightLocal's Agency Directory). Most US citation lists are built for plumbers, lawyers and restaurants. This guide narrows them to the sites that make sense for technology firms, explains each free option and shows how to set up profiles that hold up when a buyer checks you out.

Why US citation lists need filtering for IT firms

BrightLocal publishes a list of 50 free US business directories, last updated in August 2026. It is ordered by domain authority, a third-party metric, and it includes sites such as WebMD, Justia, FindLaw, Zillow, Houzz and HappyCow. Those are excellent for doctors, lawyers, realtors and vegan cafes. They are irrelevant for a cloud consultancy in Austin or a React agency in San Francisco.

Other popular lists run to 74 or 84 sites with the same problem. A long list is not a plan. For an IT company the useful question is narrower: where do our buyers look when they are checking out a vendor, and where does a consistent company record help search engines and AI assistants describe us accurately? That usually leaves 10 to 15 sites.

Search and map listings

Google Business Profile is free, according to Google, and it is the profile most likely to appear when a prospect searches your company name. Google's page says you can define service areas even if you operate without a physical storefront, which suits remote and hybrid teams. If clients do not visit your office, read Google's guidelines for service-area businesses before you add an address, and never use a mailing address you do not work from. Our guide to Google Business Profile for IT companies covers categories and review requests.

Bing Places offers a free basic listing and can import details from your Google profile, which makes it a fifteen-minute job once Google is done.

Apple Business Connect lets you claim your location in Apple Maps and control how it appears, with your logo, hours, images and key details. Apple notes that feature availability varies by country. For a company whose buyers use iPhones, a correct Apple Maps card prevents the awkward moment when a client cannot find your office.

Trust and review platforms

LinkedIn matters more than any directory for most B2B technology firms. Buyers, candidates and partners all land there. Keep the company page's specialties, website, headcount and location consistent with your other profiles.

Yelp says on its business site that it is free to be on Yelp and to manage your page, with paid ads optional. It is worth claiming if you serve local businesses, for example managed IT services or small business websites. For enterprise software work it is rarely a lead source.

BBB appears in BrightLocal's free directory list. Keep in mind that a BBB business profile and BBB accreditation are different things: accreditation is a separate programme with its own standards. Check your local BBB's current terms before applying.

Manta is a small business directory with company profiles and an add-listing page. It is mainly useful as a consistent company record rather than a source of IT buyers.

B2B directories where US buyers compare IT vendors

These platforms are where a buyer who already knows they need a partner goes to compare options:

  • Clutch offers a free profile, verified reviews and badges. Paid sponsorship and featured listings have no published prices and require a 12-month commitment, according to Clutch's advertising and help pages.
  • GoodFirms has a free listing described as "$0 forever" and a PRO plan at $49 a month, billed $588 a year.
  • TechBehemoths is free and funded by its parent company's own services.
  • BrightLocal's Agency Directory is free for marketing agencies and consultants with operations in the USA. It covers SEO, local SEO, PPC and web design, and orders agencies by Partner status and Google review score.
  • Trusted IT Firms offers a free listing at /register-your-company/. Profiles show services, technologies, location, team size, hourly rate band and reviews. How companies are ordered is explained in the ranking methodology.

What Trusted IT Firms data shows about US listings

The United States is the largest country on Trusted IT Firms with 177 listed companies. California has 36 and Texas has 23, with Houston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin among the cities with the most profiles. You can browse every IT company in the United States by service and state.

In the data snapshot used for this article, 71 of the US profiles do not state an hourly rate. Of those that do, 57 list $25 to $75 an hour, 30 list $1 to $25 and 19 list $75 to $250. A buyer filtering by budget will not see profiles with an empty rate field, so fill it in even if you prefer to quote per project.

Setting up US profiles properly

  1. Pick one canonical name, address and phone. Use the format from your website footer, including suite numbers and the same phone format everywhere.
  2. Be honest about location. If you are an offshore team with a US sales office, say so. Buyers notice when a "New York" company has no New York staff, and some directories check.
  3. Choose services carefully. List what you sell most, not every category. A focused profile ranks better on directory category pages and reads more credibly.
  4. Add proof. Short case studies with the client's industry, the problem, what you built and the outcome.
  5. Collect reviews deliberately. Ask recent clients, one platform at a time. Never buy or swap reviews.
  6. Tag your links. Where a platform allows it, add UTM parameters so you can see visits and enquiries per directory in your analytics.

Most directory profile links are marked nofollow, ugc or sponsored. Google's documentation says such links will generally not be followed, and its spam policies list low-quality directory links and paid links that pass ranking credit as link spam. So treat listings as a way to be found and checked, not as an SEO shortcut. The value is in referral visits, brand searches, reviews and accurate company data. The TechBehemoths survey of tech companies, published in August 2026, makes the same point from a different angle: 49.8% of respondents said clients discover them through directories, but directories produced 2.1% of new business, against 29.1% from Google Search. Directories are one channel among several.

Maintenance: a quarterly routine

Conclusion

A US IT company needs fewer listings than most citation lists suggest: the three map platforms, LinkedIn, a couple of trust sites and two or three B2B directories, all complete and consistent. If you also work with UK clients, our list of free business listing sites in the UK uses the same approach. Frequently asked questions

What is the most important free listing for a US IT company?

Google Business Profile, followed closely by a complete LinkedIn company page. Google states that creating a Business Profile is free.

Should a software company list on Yelp?

Claim it if you serve local businesses, for example managed IT or small business websites. Yelp says it is free to be on Yelp. For enterprise work it is rarely a lead source, but a claimed profile keeps your details correct.

Is BrightLocal's Agency Directory open to all IT companies?

No. BrightLocal says it is for marketing agencies and consultants with operations in the USA, covering SEO, local SEO, PPC and web design.

Will free directory listings improve my Google rankings?

Do not expect that. Most directory links are nofollow or similar, and Google treats low-quality directory links as link spam. The value is in referral traffic, reviews and accurate company data.

How do I list my IT company on Trusted IT Firms?

Create a free listing at /register-your-company/ with your services, technologies, location, team size and rate band.
