Top Mobile App Development Companies in the USA (2027)

Ten mobile app development companies in the USA from Trusted IT Firms' directory, in listing order, with location, team size, rates and iOS and Android services.

Top Mobile App Development Companies in the USA (2027)

The mobile app development companies in the USA below come from Trusted IT Firms' directory: 10 companies with a United States location that list iOS or Android app development among their services. They are shown in Trusted IT Firms' listing order, not ranked by us on quality, and each entry uses only what the company has listed: location, founding year, team size, hourly rate band and services. Use the list to start a shortlist, then use the checks further down, especially on app store account ownership and where the developers are based, before you hire.

How this list was put together

We selected published companies whose listed country is the United States and whose services include iOS or Android. In the directory snapshot used for this article, 61 companies meet that test. We then kept them in Trusted IT Firms' listing order, which is based on editor rank, featured status and profile score, and took the first ten. The ranking methodology explains how the order works. We have not tested these companies' apps, and a position on this list is not an endorsement.

One listing within this range was skipped because its city and state are in India while its country is set to the United States, so we could not confirm a US location. Two other entries list a city without a state, and we show them as listed.

Among the 61 matching companies, 19 list California as their state, 7 Texas, 4 New York, and 3 each Illinois and Florida, while 11 do not give a state. 30 list an hourly rate of $25 to $75, 13 list $1 to $25, 8 list $75 to $250 and 10 do not state a rate. For cross-platform work, 32 list React Native and 30 list Flutter.

Native or cross-platform: what to ask

Most companies above list both native and cross-platform options. Which one suits you depends on the app, not on the vendor's preference. Ask each shortlisted company:

  • Which approach would it recommend for your app, and what would change its recommendation?
  • Which device features you need, such as camera, Bluetooth, background location or payments, and how each approach handles them.
  • How it would share code with a web app, if you need one.
  • Who maintains the app after launch, and how operating system updates are handled each year.

Our comparison of Flutter and React Native covers the two most common cross-platform choices in more depth.

Own your app store accounts

Your apps should be published under your organisation's developer accounts, not the agency's. If they are published under the agency's account, moving to a new developer later can mean republishing the app and losing its listing history.

  • Apple: Apple's enrolment page for the Apple Developer Program states that the program costs 99 USD per membership year, that organisations must be a legal entity able to contract with Apple, and that the organisation's name is shown as the seller on the App Store. Organisations, other than government entities, need a D-U-N-S Number, so apply early if you do not have one.
  • Google Play: Google's Play Console help page lists a one-time registration fee of US$25 and two account types, Personal and Organization. Personal accounts created after November 2023 must meet app testing requirements before distribution, so a business should normally choose an Organization account.

Add the agency to your accounts as a team member with the access it needs. Android publishing rules are also changing: see our article on Android developer verification.

Questions to ask before you hire

  1. Where are the designers and developers who will work on our app based, and are they employees or subcontractors?
  2. Can you show two or three live apps similar to ours, and tell us which parts you built?
  3. Who will be our day-to-day contact, and what are their working hours?
  4. How do you test on real devices, and which iOS and Android versions will you support?
  5. Will the code, designs and accounts be ours, and when does ownership transfer?
  6. What does maintenance after launch cost, and what does it include?

The first question matters because a US address on a profile can be a sales or head office while delivery happens elsewhere. That is not a problem in itself, but you should know where the team is, which time zones you will work across and which country's law governs the contract.

Frequently asked questions

How were these US mobile app companies chosen?

They are published Trusted IT Firms listings with the United States as country and iOS or Android among their services, shown in the site's listing order. The order is not a quality rating.

Should my app be published under my own developer account?

Yes. Publish under your organisation's Apple and Google Play accounts and give the agency access, so you keep the app listing if you change developer.

How much does an Apple or Google Play developer account cost?

Apple lists 99 USD per membership year for the Apple Developer Program. Google lists a one-time US$25 registration fee for a Play Console account.

Are all these companies' developers based in the USA?

The list uses each company's listed location. Ask each company where the people working on your app are based and whether they are employees or subcontractors.
